In response to the recent events in our Nations history and with the rapid growth of Monroe and Orange County, the Trustees of Monroe, and the Monroe Police Department determined that there was a need to organize a tactical team. In 2003 a team was equipped and trained to deal with threats that exceed the capabilities of the patrol force.
January 2005, the Monroe Team joined with the Town of Woodbury Police Department tactical team to create the new Regional Entry And Containment Team (REACT). The Village of Harriman, which borders both Monroe and Woodbury, also agreed to assign officers to the team. The team prepares to deal with many different situations including active shooters, hostage rescue, warrant entry and barricaded persons. The Team is also trained to deploy many different types of non-lethal force. The team uses specialized equipment including two Armored Rescue Vehicles (ARV). The ARV can be used to extricate people trapped during an armed conflict or to protect the team in dangerous situations. The ARV below was donated by Titan Armored Car, Inc. and has been restored with the assistance of York Locksmith Inc., Loyal Towing, Apple Auto Body, Carpenter & Smith, Inc., Gervic Paint, Goosetown Communications, Monroe Ford and Smith, Seaman & Quakenbush Funeral Homes.
